reminders

mindfulness reminders nudge you to pause during the day.

creating a reminder

  • open settings > reminders.
  • tap the + button.
  • enter a title and a message.
  • choose a schedule type:
  • fixed times — one or more HH:MM wall-clock times.
  • interval — a start time and how many minutes to wait between repeats.
  • semi-random — a start/end window, an interval in minutes, and a variance; each reminder lands roughly interval ± variance after the previous one.
  • by default, use same time every day is on. this shows a single set of times (or a single start/end window) that applies to every day. turn it off to set different times for each day.
  • toggle on and save.

when you save, the snackbar shows the next scheduled time, e.g. reminder scheduled for 9:00 AM or reminder scheduled for 9:00 AM on Monday, Jan 6.

the app schedules the next future occurrence. only future times are used; past times are skipped.

message sources

  • single message — the exact message you typed.
  • list — a message drawn from one or more lists, in random or ordered selection mode.

Android reliability

  • on Android, each reminder has a high-priority alarm mode toggle. when off (default), the app uses a best-effort schedule that does not add entries to the system alarm clock. when on, the app uses the system alarm clock so the reminder fires at the exact time.
  • when you save a reminder with high-priority alarm mode on, the app asks for the "alarms & reminders" permission in addition to notification and battery-optimization permissions.
  • the app always asks to ignore battery optimizations so it can run a short background task when each alarm fires and reschedule the next one.
  • some Android skins also require setting the app's battery usage to unrestricted in system settings.

editing a reminder

  • on the reminders screen, tap the pencil icon on a reminder.
  • the editor opens pre-filled; make changes and save.

interval end time

  • when creating or editing an interval reminder, set a start time, end time, and interval in minutes.
  • the app will stop generating notifications after the end time each day.

minimize to tray on desktop

  • settings > look and feel > minimize to tray (desktop only).
  • when enabled, closing the window keeps the app running in the system tray.
  • right-click the tray icon to show or hide the window.
  • left-click the tray icon to re-show the most recent notification.
  • launch minimized with: know_that_you_are_breathing --minimize-to-tray.
